Tetsuya Nomura’s Character Design
Tetsuya Nomura is a Japanese video game artist, designer and director working for Square Enix (formerly Square). He is most famous for his work on the Final Fantasy, Parasite Eve and Kingdom Hearts series.
He started working for Squaresoft as a debugger for Final Fantasy IV. After receivingtraining by artist Tetsuya Takahashi. Nomura designed the monsters for Final Fantasy V and later became the art director of Final Fantasy VI. He later worked on games like Parasite Eve, Brave Fencer Musashi and Final Fantasy VIII. After The Bouncer he return in full capacity to the Final Fantasy series working on the tenth installment of the series and it’s sequel. Nomura then was one of the key people working on Kingdom Hearts and later becoming director for the latest entries in the Final Fantasy franchise.
Tetsuya Nomura’s style is very modern but with a touch of japanese tradition, as suggested by his use of lines. His character usually present very spyky hair and wear eccentric clothes matched with various accesories. The fashion used in the design is close to what you would see in the Tokyo Shibuya area. While this gives the characters a lot of charm it completely eludes any concept of function, resulting in people wearing leather and jewelry in a desert environment.
